Pool News (continued) May 20090:Summer is nearly here again and the pool is open! Due to new safety regulations, we were required to install new main drain covers which are designed to prevent accidental entrapment due to suction holding a swimmer down. The pool had to be drained to do the work and, as of 5/1 was being refilled. If all goes well we should be swimming by Sat 5/16. JUST IN TIME FOR SCHOOL’S END!!! Once we get things cleaned up and operating for the year it is up to all of us to keep them that way. Please make sure to remind your kids to read and follow the rules posted on the pump house and we adults MUST set a good example by following these rules ourselves. Don’t forget, cameras are rolling!! Of special note, please do not bring glass into the pool area and make sure you always leave the area cleaner than you found it. Anyone who has lived in another subdivision with amenities as nice of ours knows that our dues are VERY low and the only way we can keep them that way is to take care of all our common areas on our own to every extent possible. Please feel free to contact me or Ryan for any questions or concerns you may have regarding the pool. I look forward to another great summer at Royal Oaks. - Greg Jones, Overbend Trail Fall 2008:In case some of you don’t know, we have been on chlorine disinfection all year due to the salt system failure last year. This has proven to be very maintenance-friendly, although somewhat harder on the eyes. As far as the salt system goes, it would require replacement of the three ionization cells at about $500+ each to get it going again, and it was the Board’s decision to let it sit for at least this season. It appears that these repairs would probably have to be repeated every two or so years, so it may just be simpler and cheaper to stay on chlorine permanently. If you have any concerns or comments regarding water quality, please let me or Ryan know. The only needed repair to the pool itself has been the re-attachment of the main drain cover (it did take two tries). These are the plastic squares on the bottom of the deep end of the pool. There is significant suction below these from the drains pulling water to the filter, so their placement is very important. PLEASE MAKE SURE EVERYONE STAYS OFF OF THESE COVERS. MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS KNOW TO LEAVE THEM ALONE ALSO! PULLING ON THEM HARD MAY LOOSEN THEM AGAIN, RESULTING IN A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND ANOTHER $350 REPAIR BILL! We also had to repair the lock on the women’s bathroom door. That didn’t initially seem so important, but after a couple of days of the women constantly leaving the seat down and making a general mess of the guy’s space, it gained importance. Thanks Mark and Bud for your help. In closing, thanks for your cooperation and let me know if there are any concerns or comments. Greg
